Requirements:

  • J.D., admitted to practice in New York or in the state where you reside.
  • 6+ years of law firm and/or comparable in-house experience.
  • You are passionate about data privacy and protection and keeping up with new developments, and with supporting business needs for marketing initiatives, including digital marketing and e-commerce projects, and data privacy/protection management.
  • Expertise with U.S., European, and other data privacy and protection laws, company policies/processes, and best practices around the world, including, for example, CPRA and GDPR.
  • Experience with managing international intellectual property portfolios.
  • The role reports to the VP & Assistant General Counsel for Intellectual Property, Licensing, and Data Privacy


Job Responsibilities:

  • As part of the Company's in-house data privacy and intellectual property legal team, you are responsible for data privacy/protection and intellectual property legal matters worldwide.
  • Review a wide range of vendor, IT, SaaS, licensing, and other commercial agreements, with a focus on data privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property, and other commercial provisions.
  • Partner effectively with business units, IT and Corporate Compliance to review, update and manage website privacy notices, consistent with changes in the global data privacy/protection regulatory landscape and Company digital marketing/e-commerce initiatives.
  • Provide legal advice on data subject access requests (DSARs), cookies, data mapping, and related matters, working cross-functionally with IT and business units.
  • Advise business colleagues on all types of intellectual property matters, including trademarks, trade dress, copyright, patents, trade secrets, and rights of publicity.
  • Help manage international trademark, patent, and domain name portfolios.
  • Manage trademark enforcement and IP conflicts worldwide.
  • Conduct trademark clearance searches and advise Marketing colleagues on search results.
  • Collaborate with an experienced international in-house legal team of trademark and patent professionals.
  • Review packaging and labels for IP compliance.
  • Provide legal support for any mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, or corporate restructuring, with a focus on IP and data privacy issues.
  • Manage outside counsel as needed worldwide.
  • Must be proactive, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects; able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other members of the Legal department as needed.
  • Provide practical legal and business advice, balancing business needs and risks.
  • Conduct legal training sessions as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Provide additional legal support as matters arise.


The ideal candidate would be based in the New York metropolitan area with the ability to work in the Company's office in lower Manhattan, usually not more than once per week.

The base pay range for this position in New York City is $190,000 - $240,000 /year; however base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. Certain positions may also be eligible for short and/or long-term incentives as part of total compensation.
