2024 marks 10 years since the EUIPO put in place its first traineeship programme. What started as a pilot a decade ago has turned into a successful pan-European programme, open to graduates from more than 140 universities. Cycling for cyclists. IP protection for us. With the Giro d’Italia 🇮🇹 about to kick off, find here a few interesting facts about intellectual property and cycling: 🚴 Il Giro, La Vuelta and Le Tour de France are all EU trade marks. Trade marks are also present in the names of the competing teams and the brands of the bikes. 🏆 World-class riders from yesterday and today such as Eddy Merckx, Marco Pantani, Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard or Primož Roglič own EU trade marks for their names and/or logos. 🟡 Le Tour de France is the only one of the three Grand Tours that has its winners jersey, the 'maillot jaune', registered as a trade mark. 🚲 Design rights not only protect the appearance of bicycles and parts of them, but also the riders’ clothes and helmets. 💡 Patents protect inventions and new technologies related to bicycles. #cycling #giroditalia #trademarks #patents #designrights #intellectualproperty

This week, the EUIPO hosted a new edition of the IP Case Law Conference. With a record participation – over 1 400 participants from more than 60 countries followed the event in-person and online – the conference addressed some of the most pressing issues shaping IP law, as well as the current challenges and opportunities facing the global IP landscape.   From the need for a unified copyright system in the EU, the challenges of trade mark modernisation, the registration of non-conventional marks, or IP enforcement in cyberspace, the lively discussions left plenty of food for thought and allowed participants to engage in thought-provoking debates.   This year was even more special as it coincided with the 30th anniversary of the EUIPO. This fact was highlighted by Executive Director João Negrão in his opening address, who also emphasised the need to work together to ensure a robust IP ecosystem that delivers for innovators around the world.   A big thank you goes to all the speakers and participants for an unforgettable event. A new EUIPO study finds that the number of green EU trade mark applications has soared in recent years, as concerns about the environment continue to grow among companies worldwide. The share of green EU trade mark applications containing terms related with sustainable development already represents 15 % of all EUTM applications. This week, our trainees are taking part in a new edition of the IP Campus. A packed programme of activities includes on-stage presentations by trainees on IP-related topics, panel discussions and a job fair that connects them with IP professionals. There are nerves and excitement ahead of their presentations, but it pays off: they develop essential skills such as teamwork and public speaking, and they grow personally and professionally. The Pan-European Seal Traineeship Programme is our flagship traineeship programme run in collaboration with the European Patent Office since 2014.
