As Director of the Trademark Register Protection Office (Director), you'll be the catalyst and critical thought leader for the Office by developing programs and policies that address and prevent fraud, violations of USPTO rules of practices, and inaccurate claims of use.
If you're inspired and up for an exciting challenge, join the dynamic, skilled and collaborative team located in the Trademarks' Register Protection Office, Office of the Deputy Commissioner for Trademark Examination Policy (DCTEP). The DCTEP is responsible for developing and administering trademark regulations that implement examination policy and procedures.
Imagine as the Director, you'll contribute to the execution of a multi-part strategy to ensure that the registrations the USPTO issues are valid and enforceable ?.
You'll be on the cutting edge of planning for the development and formulation of new initiatives, practices and procedures to fight fraud, as well as revising existing initiatives, practices and procedures.
You'll oversee and direct the activities and resources of the Trademark Register Protection Office that includes the Special Task Force for Improper Activities, the Post-Registration Audit unit, and Trademark Modernization Act nonuse cancellation proceeding examination unit.
And that's not all
In this role you will be responsible for conducting stakeholder consultations to introduce initiatives and collect public feedback, and evaluating public input to determine next steps.
You'll provide high quality speeches and communications to stakeholders about the Register Protection Program and initiatives, and develop metrics to demonstrate the impact of the initiatives.
You'll provide legal counsel to senior leadership on complex, controversial, and visible legal matters.

The PTQs for this position are:
1.Demonstrated ability to plan and execute high level programs and/or projects that are highly specialized and impact the agency or organization level. This includes setting vision and strategy, making decisions and influencing others, having a direct and major impact on the quality of the program or project results.
2. Demonstrated ability in developing examination or investigation processes and workflow.
3. Demonstrated expertise in trademark law, policy, and practice, including trademark examination policy and practice.
Probationary Period: You will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
This is a Non-Bargaining Unit position.
